Since I'm not actuality as naive as I sounded for the Gardner Museum recommendation. I stand by the fact that art more and more as I get older feels nothing more than secure asset for wealthy people to launder their money in. Jeff Koon's to me feels like the purest realization of this mix of banality, cringe, and decadence neoliberal pop art as someone who went to art school but made their money working as a financial broker on Wall Street. His success comes in selling one of the highest priced pieces at an art auction. He likely observed some market and artistic realism early on observing the overlapping and opposing values of his mom, an interior decorator and his dad a furniture dealer.

Adrien Brody is releasing some more paintings and it reminded me that without bad art you wouldn’t be able to appreciate good art. I work near the same gallery showing his pieces and I love walking by the window and taking pictures of the corny displays, including monopoly luggage, bottles of liquor and tweety bird smoking a joint. Tremendous.

This could be one of those rare things that – somehow – reminds you who you are, or who you used to be, those parts you thought were gone. (And trust me, there will be threads. So many threads.) I’ve learned, too, that there are whole stretches of life where you’ve been a stranger to yourself for so long that admitting it feels terrifying, insane even. But without that one thing to confess to, to get honest with – to untangle the mess of ordinary, maddening thoughts – you might never know what’s actually there, buried under the static.

I stumbled upon this relic in a nameless California town I forgot the name of, probably because thrift shops are like existential quicksand. It’s the perfect prop for those friend-argument moments, an almost absurd metaphor for dismantling our emotional walls between us. Plus, its sheer randomness guarantees everyone will question your sanity rather than the sentiment. 💯💯💯💯
