I work out unclothed in my room. It’s less restrictive than working out in athletic wear, and of course it means I cut down on laundry days. On YouTube I bounce between Caroline Girvan and Madfit. Outside of YouTube my friend Sadie lets me use her Sculpt Society account (I almost called it Pilate Pals). Working out is so addictive–mostly I love to feel strong. I had a phase of using fitness metaphors often and sincerely, but I think that’s behind us now.

i can't spend my hard earned money on a gym membership in this economy. gyms make me uncomfortable anyway, so home workout is the way to go for me. i love madfit on youtube for apartment-friendly, no equipment exercises. i'm not the most athletic person, but i'm trying to be consistent with my workout, doing it at least once a week. i've been doing the 20-min full body workout for the past month, and now gradually working my way up to 30 and then 45. also trying to get back on the more focused exercises, like abs, upper body, etc. bc i've been slacking off for a while.

I made a bunch of wild changes in my life recently. Went sober for a couple months, quit smoking and started exercising like crazy…highly recommend all three of these but specifically I found love for basic bitch fitness. For the first time I fully understand the fanaticism: the light filled mirrored room, Taylor swift remixes thumping in your sports bra bound chest, a tiny nasal bubblegum voice thick with vocal fry assuring you that you are so strong and powerful, ok ladies! Instills this nearly manic feeling of total control and capability and I walk out feeling psychotically euphoric.

I like working out, but the hardest part for me is getting up to actually do it. I try to entice myself to rise to the challenge with nice workout clothing that I think looks cool and makes me feel hot. Of course, this method has to include my workout gear as well. I started working out at home during the pandemic doing a mix of various workout videos, with my fave being @isaacboots Instagram live workouts, which require wrist and ankle weights. I decided to splurge on these very chic weights from bala bangles, because like 50% of the enjoyment of working out for me is the post workout selfies. They also make sleek hand weights if you’re not an ankle weight person.

I grew up being painfully shy with anyone other than my closest friends. I got sick of that. Over the years I’ve grown into a confident person by doing as much scary shit as I can. If there’s something I find particularly terrifying, like accepting an invitation to attend a clowning class, it means to me I have to just fucking do it. I don’t always end up having good experiences following my fear, but more often than not, I do. And you know, worst case scenario I end up with a funny story? Eating shit is good for you. If there’s something that keeps floating into your consciousness, but you’re afraid to poke it, I recommend walking towards it!

I first got into Devin The Dude (shoutout to Houston) during a lil chopped and screwed phase in high school, but it wasn’t until a few years ago that I first heard “See What I Could Pull,” and it caught me. I get obsessed with things, but I’ve never gotten unobsessed with this song. It’s unlike any other song I know of, and it’s stayed in my weekly rotation.

My beautiful and elegant friend Roya makes clocks out of pita bread. I have trouble reading my clock, but time is not fundamentally real anyway. You can cop one by DMing @empty_vassal on IG. If there’s a little wait, it’s because her oven only holds enough space for her to dry out two at a time (the first step in curing them). Bonus! 50% of the proceeds go to the White Helmets 🫶
