I watched the sunrise every morning this past week in Mexico. When I looked to my left and right, everyone was taking photos of it. I’m very anti “Put your phone away and enjoy the show” vibes, I think that’s pretentious and naive. BUT: when it’s something as simple and common as a sunrise, the effect actually IS better if you just let it all in IRL. Because you probably will never look at that photo again. If you can google image search something, why would you need an image of it?

Without sounding like a bitter luddite, I miss the days of people capturing moments for the sake of remembering, not sharing with strangers. We all have childhood VHS footage and disposable photos of seemingly mundane moments at family BBQs, birthday parties, vacations, etc, but in the iPhone age most of our photos are taken with the intention of posting. This is a crucial difference, for me at least, so I recommend getting a camera not because it takes better photos than your phone, but because it'll remind you to capture more regular slices of life.

Don’t have to buy a digicam or take a picture. I am sure a mental note could work too (or drawing or actually writing things down). It’s just a little practice in acknowledging the beauty in all the “regular” things around you. Appreciate the not-so-obvious ethereal, enigmatic, enchanting, or whatever around you. This isn’t a new idea and, previously, I thought doing this was bullshit. Yes, this is all an excuse to show my photos too, but I swear increased attunement does wonders. Enjoy your day everyone.

“Oh man that’s hilarious - I gotta post that.” “What a novel concept! I gotta post that. “That sunset is amazing - I gotta post that.” … save some of the awesome in your life for just you and your memories.

I think this song gets a bad rap. Sure, it was overplayed, and probably got way bigger than it should of. But that style of indie pop has such potential to be clean, highly danceable, catchy bliss. Taking notes from Neon Trees for next Frost project…

As a Trans, I believe in Ariel Pink's gender dysphoria. This song technically came out right at the end of 2023. I heard it while on a run early in the morning in Setagaya City, Tokyo. In the track, Pink sings, "When I was born, something went wrong. They told me I was lucky-- I came this close to being a girl. But I want to be a girl." I absolutely believe his dysphoric yearnings, and detect no sign of post-woke edgelordism. I think it's probably very common, yet hardly documented, when men feel like they want to be a girl, ultimately deciding to remain with their birth gender. In fact, I think this sentiment is rather trans-affirming. As one male friend of mine said of his COVID-era gender experience: "I couldn't decide if I wanted 'Her', or wanted to be 'Her.'" It's a brave stance to portray in a song, one that edges on Macklemore's "When I was in the 3rd grade, I thought that I was gay", but with all the heart and none of the corny virtue signaling. And it's wayyyy too catchy.
