But another good one is Songmeanings.com. I like looking up old favorite songs and reading arguments about the meanings from years ago- it’s such fun.
Here is a good comment I found under Look On Down From The Bridge by Mazzy Star
“This song has a special meaning to me. It's the song played in the soprano's 1st season at Jackie Aprile's funeral. I used to watch that show every Sunday with a friend in college. We grew close, then we moved in together. It went downhill. Graduated and moved back home, I had some things to return to her, so I mailed them out and I put a copy of this song on a CD and sent it too. I never knew such a simple two syllable word as "goodbye" could be so hard to say.

It has come to my attention that many people of the universe don’t care much for song lyrics. Whatever floats your boat - I understand the appeal of a nice beat or a catchy tune. All I’m saying is that as long as you are influenced by music, how can you ignore its meaning or feeling? It’s beyond me! To interpret the message being communicated is one of the great joys of consuming music.
(To be clear, I love an instrumental soundtrack or song. I have a deep appreciation for the artistry of writing and composing beautiful music. This in itself does tell a story and that is worth praise. But in regards to songs with lyrics - to not pay attention to them is to turn the pages of a book without reading it. You miss the journey entirely!! You deprive yourself of the spirit of the thing!!)

I finally figured out how to play this on guitar instead of piano as it's constructed here (it's in a different tuning -- drop C, CGCFAD which is also what Nirvana's "On a Plain" is in)
I think it's Faces' greatest song, from among many candidates -- Rod Stewart basically isn't on it, he's barely on this album TBH -- it was written and sung by Ronnie Lane.

This started as a faux “tattoo wishlist” but it has now become a collection of lyrics that mean something, anything, to me or I find funny or they just stand out. The most recent one, the beach house one, is really beautiful in a funny way to me. Like a sort of “but hey what do I know?” Some of em just sound cool I’m all sixes and sevens and nines idk wtf that means but its RAD

When the bar or venue or whatever is underground and you have to descend into the place because you can say some shit like “We are entering the seedy underbelly of this wicked city” “You know,” *cig drag* “crime is only a left-handed form of human endeavor.”
And then your friends can be like “Viv, you can’t smoke inside Dude also where the fuck did you find a pipe and a fedora What are you even saying” Giving you the opportunity to respond with a
“Beat it toots, you’re too pretty for these streets anyhow”
Then you remember your friend already offered to pay for the Uber XL home and you have like 11 bucks so you drop the bit but the sentiment is still there below the surface
