Cronenberg‘s masterpiece? No director is better at writing artists. Confronts the dilemma of artist-in-the-Anthropocene & follows through to something like a spiritual epiphany that is radical as it is hopeful. Meaning in an unnatural world depends on regarding inhumanity with a grace that is superhuman. 3/3 ★★★

One of the most overlooked movies in the past 5 years. Sold as a body-horror pic, but more of a gumshoe detective story involving surgery and microplastics in a sort-of dystopian future. Incredibly steamy and unusual. One of my favorite Kristen Stewart performances (next to Personal Shopper and Adventureland). The body horror element might scare some away, but not often a sci-fi story so stuck in its world has so much to say about ours. Thought provoking and conversation worthy, high rewatchability.

the unflinching type of depravity you expect to see in 480p on effedupmovies.com, not in a chain theatre, yet made me want to be much kinder to myself watch if you like: cronenberg, troma, having physical reactions to art, being a gorgeous woman in a tiny glittery dress i also recommend fargeat’s other film revenge (2017) which is similarly gnarly.. one thing i love about her style is when her brain cooks up something uniquely gruesome she wants her audience to see every bit of it, not a single cut away in either movie

Charli was right, it’s Cronenberg summer bitch. Even though his movies have consistent winter vibes, the amount and variety of bodies on display in the summer certainly makes it grotesque enough to be suitably Cronenbergian (?) The Shrouds was excellent, his Interview mag feature was hot and there’s never a bad time to revisit his incredibly strong and varied filmography. Don’t sleep on the other Cronenberg boy either, his son Brandon has made two of my favorite mind fucks in recent memory with Possessor and Infinity Pool.

Posting doesn’t necessarily reflect delusions of grandeur about one’s influence. it’s a simple, communicative act. give yourself some credit, trust social instincts. If people had phones at any time in human history- they’d be using them.

Ranking things out of three (no half stars, 0 permissible) is a valuable exercise. The limitations force one to reckon with the boundaries of language and the necessity of a respect for nuance. One out of three could be pretty bad..on the other hand, it's still pretty good.
