Short story collections are good because they relieve the pressure of having to finish a novel: you can sorta weave in and out of a collection according to the pace of the day. Cash's stories are very funny, absurd and surreal, and about social media, tech, and (I believe) the ills of Modernity. Might even teach a few stories to my students.

This is a Rec on how to stay sane, not how to get out, unfortunately. I have been (mostly) unemployed for like almost a year aside from short stints or gigs. it’s been awful awful awful BUT AMC A List became my light at the end of the tunnel, truly. $25 a month for 3 β€œfree” movies every week. I use it as a treat after trudging through applications or to have something to look forward to. And, yes, you can watch as many free movies as you want on your laptop in your room but having a place to go or a plan at the end of a grueling day is great.

It's pretty much a journal to record quotes that you found beautiful, important or interesting. No pressure to actually journal your innermost thoughts; just keep a log of quotes that, when looked at, reveal from a slant perspective who you are, what you care about. Will also attune you to the rhythms of language, I bet.
