i am morally opposed to the idea of commodifying all your hobbies, but i love to live in my imaginary world in which i do. nothing better than a long voice note session back and forth with a friend saying “i have a new side business for us.”
we love to go through everything from name, vibe, how we’ll make money and who is our audience. we have no interest in how we will acquire money to start this because we know we never will. it’s a fleeting moment of creativity in which you can imagine living out the unattainable dream of harmonious shared work with your best friend.
this idea is never visited again until something similar is likely created after which you and your friends can claim that you were almost definitely overheard by your fbi agent on your phone or the girl sitting next to you in the cafe. this person, of course, copied your brilliant idea and you plan to sue, another thing you’ll never do but have fun imagining. friends are magic.

make up imaginary travel scenarios, do errands with them, buy their favourite drink or get something from their favourite place, laugh as hard as you can with them, share your water, share your drink—your sandwich, your chips, your food. record dumb, stupid videos you won’t even post but will laugh before you head to bed, write letters, make zines about inside jokes, expand your creativity in the name of cherishing your friends!!!

my friends and i have this book club where one person reads a book, writes all over it, and passes it to the next person. very fun to see what ur friends have written, write jokes in the margins for them, and watch the book fill up with annotations from everyone. also good for when u don’t see ur friends that often bc ur not reading the books at the same time as them💛

get to know the technology of your parents, discover what treasure people can pull from the boxes in their attic or the corner of their garage, something like a bag made to carry eight cassette tapes (!!!) or the very same word processor you learned how to type on. planned obsolescence be damned!!!! let your home be infested by e-waste bugs, they move slow and creak binary into your ears at night but they all die eventually.

i need a tape recorder in my back pocket. a cassette accustomed to my voice i’ll be quick on the draw and won’t have to worry anymore about my thoughts clumping together and becoming so heavy that they sink into oblivion
