Just awkwardly nattered away to my barista about the weather in Korean… a language that I speak about three words of.
The beats of the whole convo were older than time, straight from a textbook, but I walked away feeling like we’d been written by Aaron Sorkin (despite both being women).

I wish I could speak every language to converse with everyone around the world! There’s something tantalizing about having this ability. Perhaps because deep conversations are a doorway into someone‘s upbringing and people’s cultures, and there is so much joy in hearing someone‘s story. In another lifetime, surely I was a polyglot enjoying company from people all around the world!

obviously not in a creepy way but once you start doing this you’ll actually recognize the same people if you’re in a walking neighborhood and it starts to really feel like a village!
Love recognizing an old coworker, your local tailor, or just nodding at your barista on the street :)
