This is a Rec on how to stay sane, not how to get out, unfortunately. I have been (mostly) unemployed for like almost a year aside from short stints or gigs. it’s been awful awful awful BUT AMC A List became my light at the end of the tunnel, truly. $25 a month for 3 “free” movies every week. I use it as a treat after trudging through applications or to have something to look forward to. And, yes, you can watch as many free movies as you want on your laptop in your room but having a place to go or a plan at the end of a grueling day is great.

New York's Hottest Club is....Film Noir Cinema's Thursday Night Film Club! On April 18th at 9PM I'll be showing a personal favorite film of mine at the greatest little theatre in the city, so come on down to 122 Meserole Avenue in Greenpoint. Tickets are $10 cash, $5 beers and $3 sodas, plus a myriad of pierogi joints nearby for you to grab a bite at beforehand.

classical art museums can be so boring sometimes.... especially when you don't know the context or what to look for visually! I came up with a game that I play with my friends when we go to classical art museums with a lot of portraits. Smash or Pass (museum edition), its pretty self explanatory, just walk through the portraiture section and decide wether you want to smash or pass the people in the portraits. It's extra fun if you create backstories for the people and decide based on the full story you've come up with. Can also be played in the non portraiture section by personifying the non-people paintings and giving them human personalities and features based on the vibe that you get from the painting (or the feeling it evokes in you). ++ extra museum tip that I've found is: don't ever try to go through an entire museum in one day (unless its a small museum). Consuming so much information within one space is way too tiring for the brain and often makes the information you consumed much less memorable.

I was sitting in Washington Square Park a few evenings ago when I saw young people visibly dressed in clothes from my cultural/religious community. I started googling centers in the area and realised they must be going to the only one close by on the map. I signed up for an event and I went there today! I left crying crocodile tears… It was the first time I ever felt really seen and understood by this community that I’ve been struggling to fit into my whole life. The first time I didn’t feel judged for all parts of myself, parts that I usually hide. anyways, if I wasnt people watching in the park and if I didn’t let my people watching curiosity lead me to where I went, I wouldn’t have felt this incredible grateful joy I feel today! pay attention to what the world is showing you 🫶
