i have them with my friends, once every two weeks, and even though i’m terrible at board games and i never remember the chinese characters we have a blast. i bring my little speaker and play my reggaetón oldies playlist which oddly enough melds well with the atmosphere (because we play like old farts in a dominican dive bar, so it’s all fairly reminiscent of dominoes). plus the clack of the tiles is really pleasant to the ear

I played Catan for the first time last night, I’m OBSESSED. We listened to Catan themed music the whole time. I also really love Magic the Gathering. Need more game nights ASAP, and not just Uno.

head to the pub with a deck of cards and a limited social battery and your spirits will be lifted. you don’t have to talk, just easy silent companionship. feels liberating to be ambience for other people’s conversations
even better when playing offbeat card games that confuse the other patrons - i.e. italian card game SCOPA which is super fun, easy to learn and has funky suites

my best friend, now that she studies in a film school in the cuban countryside, took up the hobby as there isn’t much to do over there. she frequently talks to me about it, the quiet thrill of it, and all of a sudden i find myself looking up, frowning at the branches. i recently told her, half in jest (we were visiting home for the holidays) “what if we drop everything, go to papua new guinea, film the birds of paradise?” and she, dead serious, responded: “hmm… à la les blank?” expect the doc anytime soon!
