I guess I should recco a book given my user name and this is one of my all time faves. By DM Cornish, it is a completely unique YA fantasy series about who the real monsters are.

If we were villains:
it’s one of my new favs by ML Rios! It’s about a group of Shakespeare scholars that go to school in this prestigious university in BFE. They are doing a production of a play when someone turns up dead with no suspect. It’s super thrilling and an amazing use of shakespeare’s text to tie the story together. 100% recommend if ur into horror/murder mystery!
Crowns of Nyaxia:
This is a series by carissa broadbent that (currently) spans 2 main books as well as a couple spinoff books. The two main books are some of my faves in the fantasy genre. it’s hunger games with vampires! there’s amazing fight scenes, gore, poetry, and a little smut if you’re into that. I read both of these books this summer and this is the first time that i’ve read a spinoff in a series bc i loved the characters that much.

Ok listen, I got into this series in the worst of times for me. I became obsessed with it to be quite honest and read the whole 3 books (there are 2 more out now about one of the side characters) in the span of a week on my phone.
The characters are all traumatized messes and the dynamics between them are frankly a little insane. But it feels so good. The whole thing is about nonlinear healing and how different types of trauma create different responses and need different things. Not so explicitly but it's there the whole time. It's found family sort of. The list of trigger warnings on this thing is crazy so if you need to look that up definitely do. It's a weird mafia sports book? There's romance? It's really hard to put into words. You'll either love it or think I'm insane for loving it.
But this is my all time favorite series. The one that's so so close to my heart that I don't even mention it because it feels that personal. I'm only sharing this now because I know it's what I would've needed if I was you.
If you don't like it or don't read it that's totally ok. But for the love of everything do NOT come into my comments hating on it because this is the one thing I don't want any constructive criticism on. It's my baby.

of this one series but I remember reading it as a middle schooler in the early-00's and it was about a group of children with supernatural abilities. one girl was telepathic and listened to metal to drown out peoples thoughts, and there were some dark creatures that caused magnetic disturbances (paperclips made a big appearance) and now that I've written it out it sounds quite a bit like stranger things.
