It’s been a lifesaver since leaving college and losing access to Kanopy.
Tons of revolutionary films and documentaries, it’s like netflix for cool people! Jk i kid, i kid… 👀.
A lot of independent films that are no longer being shown are up there too!! Great stuff all around.

tis a streaming service that you can use if your library (local/public/university) is participating in it.
I highly recommend. It gives you access to so many different films. their range is insane.
they have Mississippi Masala and Solaris (the old one that I'll watch after my Russian exam on Tuesday) on the same platform as the Pharell Williams lego film.
P.S. all the films in the picture are available through my uni's membership to kanopy, but they might not be available through your library. give it a try tho to see what's there

internet archive: not sure how old you're talking but i have found a lot of older (and worldwide) cinema on there. they don’t have everything of course, but they’re free. i watched velvet goldmine and julian donkey boy on there and those are films that are less than 30 years old. but i also watched valley of the dolls there! the possibilities could be endless but i’ve only explored a small corner of the vast site. regardless, i love it. just google your film + internet archive and you may get a hit.
kanopy: not every library offers it and the content can vary depending on your library system as well, but it’s free with a library card. i’ve seen a lot of older films on there. some libraries offer hoopla, but not mine :( however if yours does that could also be a winner!

besides free books (physical, digital, audio) the amount of stuff u have access to is wild.
i’m talking board games, sewing machines, language classes, coding lessons, cds and dvds (that you can rip and copy and kEEP - none of the librarians are gonna tell you shit for that), maker spaces, 3D printers, community events, ballet classes, movie nights, car repair lessons, resume help, free national park tickets, bat tours during october! It’s great!
And for free?!?? in thIS economy? Literally why pay for a coworking space when the library is Right there, with free wifi and quiet rooms all to yourself.
And if there are things you don’t see offered but want to? Ask! Or even better, offer!! Start your own thing, get to know your community members.
Utilize your third spaces, they’re great!!

i got a small bowl of hard/soft candies by the front door so anyone walking in my front door can have a lil treat when they arrive ☺️ and it’s nice to have something sweet after a long day
and change it w the seasons! werther’s caramels in the winter and guava candy in the summer :)
