i was a makeup artist at sephora when i was like 19 and prom season was always so insane. every artist was booked and busy and we were all crammed into this tiny studio space to do everyone’s makeup. often times the girls getting their prom makeup done would be arguing with their mothers about how the makeup should be. meanwhile you have a walkie talkie of managers in your ear and music blaring like you’re in the club and shoulder to shoulder with everyone else trying to do makeup. OVER STIMULATING AFFF. anyways, during the makeup process i always asked the client if they would like to use the lash curler before i apply their mascara. and i made sure to ask if they’ve ever used one before and explain to them how to use it. this girl assured me she knew how to use one and even sassed me for daring to ask LOL. she proceeded with curling her lashes and as i’m watching her do so she just YANKS that shit straight out fully clamped and ripped out nearly all of her lashes. she then screams “I TOLD YOU I DIDN’T KNOW HOW TO USE IT!!!” i was like WHATTTT!!!?? like absolutely shook to my core. literally the most mind boggling moment of my life it’s still burned into my brain. she then demanded me to go get a manager and while i was away she grabbed a makeup wipe and wiped off everything i had spent an hour on :’) i cried in the bathroom after. that girl was so unreasonably rude to me i will never understand why. i think she might’ve just wanted to not pay lol. people would pull things like this often just to get their appointment for free. who knows 🤦🏻‍♀️ but on the bright side a sweet lady snuck a $100 bill in my brush belt that day just for helping her find a brow pencil. i told her we weren’t allowed to accept tips so she just stuck it in my belt and left :)

- in high school i was an attendant at a local gallery and there was a large beeswax artwork that included some little wax towers on the ground. I was supposed to tell people not to touch it/ensure they didn’t step on it. One day a woman came in and started fiddling with the wax. I was so excited to finally do my job and said “uh maam I’m sorry but please don’t touch the artwork!” and she responded “I’m the artist.“ - recently met my big boss’ wife and said “Oh, you’re jerry’s husband!“ shewas very nice about it - was working an outdoor event with maybe 100 people in a line in front of me and opening bottles of sparkling wine. I opened one too quickly (they have been exceedingly fizzy) and it made a loud popping noise, the cork shot up over 20 feet, and my entire face and front were blasted with foamy rosé. To make matters worse, in addition to laughing, everyone broke out in loud applause; I guess in response to the normal connotation of the sound of a champagne bottle popping? I worked another couple hours but it was wildly embarrassing. The girls at the front of the line were very nice and told me I didn’t even mess up my makeup lol

at my basic retail job sometimes we have to do overhead announcements for like idk backup cashiers and returns and whatnot. one day, some lady and her kid came up to me at register and while checking out the mom was like "oh did you do the announcement earlier?" And when I said yes she explained her kid (a little girl idk maybe 5-10 years old idk how kids work) heard my voice on the intercom and said very confidently to her mother that my voice sounded like I was a nice person and therefore I must be pretty and upon seeing me at register it confirmed her assumption and the little girl said I was the best and it made my day. ngl I still think abt it, kids can be so sweet man. (second place answer goes to the time a makeup student said I had perfect freckles and thought they were drawn on only for me to admit that they are real)

During my brief stint as a CVS cashier i was ringing up an older female customer and she sheepishly said ‘you’re young so you probably don’t even know who this is but I can’t stop thinking about how much you look like a model from the ‘90s named Linda Evangelista’ i was shooketh

sometimes estate sales make me so emotional. this one hit me especially hard because my boyfriend and i collect magnets from all the places we travel to and keep them on our fridge. it made me think, one day strangers will be rummaging through our magnets and all of the things we’ve curated together once we’re gone. instant tears.
