probably just because i listened to it this morning but this closes the deluxe version of ultraviolence and i think it ties it up better than the other womanā¦ dirtier and firmly in the voice of the character of this record

this is probably one of my fav pop albums of the year and specifically the deluxe version. Also almost all of the bonus tracks and as good if not better than someone of the stuff on the standard version.
I think the lyricism is incredible and paints such specific imagery of past relationships Sabrina has had. Even lines that can come off as slightly rudimentary like āYou used a fork once. It turns out forks are fuckin' everywhereā I think it actually adds a charm to the album and shows that it doesnāt take itself too seriously and like she has nothing to prove and when youāre the person who wrote ābecause i liked a boyā you definitely donāt need to prove anything to anyone.
AND THE INSTRUMENTALS!!! I think the slightly house inspired bass and drum lines like on āRead your Mindā work incredibly well as a contrast to the ballads on this album. Speaking of, I think ballads especially on a pop album and leave the album feeling a bit dry and can make the topics discussed feel repetitive especially with an emphasis on relationship based ballads but with her interesting instruments and specificity in describing the situations within these songs differentiates them a lot and doesnāt feel stale after a couple of listens.

Iāve been very slowly making my way through the satoshi kon filmography (like very slowly,,, I first watched perfect blue three years ago) and honestly this one might be my favorite?? a found family film through and through, which I am a gigantic sucker for. three homeless people find a baby in a dumpster and set out on a quest to find her parents, no matter the result. I think I was more receptive to it because it takes place on christmas eve and I was already feeling fresh nostalgia for a christmas eve that had just happened a few days beforeā¦ but I loved being in the world this film builds. a gross, hidden tokyo built upon the backs of small kindnesses. will absolutely watch again next year because I havenāt stopped thinking about it, wanting to return to that world for a few minutes.
