Saw this exhibition back a few weeks ago and can't stop thinking about it. After seeing the exhibition, I ended up taking a deep dive into his life and work. He was truly one of the most interesting artists out of the 20th century, and continued to make art, and evolve as an artist, musician, and experimental filmmaker until he passed away in 1991.  In the exhibition the films they chose (by courtesy of Anthology Film Archives) are very surreal, and dreamlike. My favorite of the exhibition is his 2hr 30min epic called No. 18: Mahagonny, that features a collection of influential artists of the 60s and 70s, like a young Patti Smith, Jonas Mekas, and Robert Mapplethorpe, amongst others. Go to it before it closes in January.

progressive albums that inspire(d) and everlasting films that were detail-oriented and expressive. this short life is but a dream, a disguising spectacle introduced through bone and flesh.

this short 1989 documentary about guy debord and the situationists is not only a good watch because of the way it explains and connects debord and his movement with the political films of jean-luc godard, the new punk world of the sex pistols, and the contemporary works of barbara krueger and jenny holzer, but also because it’s vhs texture gives it a very cozy feeling. the fuzzy jazz soundtrack and basebanded narration offers up a perfect watching experience for a cold and dreary day.

they’re all dressed up doing a very exaggerated gender performance where they walk the runway and pose and also hand-to-hand combat is homoerotic
