literally referencing Orpheus and Eurydice was the first thing that popped into my head lol
but this is also a common trope of Near-Eastern/"Oriental" (read: Arabic/Sanskrit etc.) mythology, of starcrossed lovers like Majnun and Laila. There's also Bollywood; a dramatic (always, but it's so good) ending scene in Devdas that imo references the Orpheus-Eurydice dynamic, but also maybe the whole movie has themes of it?
