Nick Drakes maybe second most known record, which you can only really discover after loving the devastating beauty behind Pink Moon first. Bryter Layter is so genius and cohesive, with much more instrumentation than his final record. I imagine we would have gotten more albums similar to this had we gotten more time on earth with this lonesome genius.
I believe if i were ever to find and own an original pressing of this record, the whole in my heart would be filled with the truest joy.
edit: i also want to note that songs from this album have been featured in both âThe Holdoversâ and the Fred Rogers biopic, âA Beautiful Day in the Neighborhoodâ which are both very cozy period pieces. So do with that what you will.

imbued with a kind of warmth you can only get in a 60âs album. exists in its own little world entirely. ok youâve got âthe weightâ right slap bang in the middle of the album and thatâs the big pull but we canât forget the rest!!! âlonesome suzieâ, âwe can talkâ, âi shall be released(!!!!)â like come on now!!!

Not sure if this is a normal arc for aging hipsters but recently oddball indie country has really been clicking in a way it never did before and Bill Callahanâs work as Smog is just amazing. His baritone voice really sells the poetic tales of self-loathing. Hell the entire album Knock Knock is about fumbling Chan Marshall (Cat Power) and if thatâs not a relatable vibe I donât know what is

Managed to see a screening of this masterpiece in 4k + surround sound, safe to say for my first watch it was biblical.
The entire cinema was sobbing at the messages from home scene

one of my earliest memories (3yo) was being knocked over by this energetic little puppy when we went to adopt him.
he was the only one of his litter who survived, hence the name lucky!
he was a good boy and we had some good times together đ«¶
