it’s so sad when people say that they hate country music. i get that the modern day patriotic/nationalistic country pop leaves a sour taste, but, there is a huge difference between modern day country and old timey outlaw country. artists used to sing about the faults in the prison system and injustices that the working class faced, the lyrics used to be very poetic and raw. so i recommend listening to johnny cash, hank williams and woody guthrie.

my faves are: johnny cash - ring of fire, a boy named sue, folsom prison blues (live version), i walk the line. roger miller - king of the road, little green apples, dang me, atta boy girl. buck owens - act naturally. patsy cline - crazy. jimmy dean - big bad john. tennessee ernie ford - sixteen tons. don gibson - oh, lonesome me. glen campbell - rhinestone cowboy, wichita lineman. charley pride - is anybody goin' to san antone? tanya tucker - delta dawn, what's your mama's name child? bobby bare - green green grass of home. david allan coe - you never even called me by my name, if this is just a game. marty robbins - el paso, big iron. tammy wynette - stand by your man.

I’m talkin about the classics. I love that spine chilling outlaw shit with lyrics about scary ghost cowboys, sleeping in a boxcar on a moving train, prison blues, repenting for your sins, and being heartbroken. From albums like The Louvin Brothers’ “Satan Is Real” (1959), to Johnny Cash's “Live At Folsom Prison” (1968), to Bruce Springsteen’s “Nebraska” (1982), I can’t get enough!
