Yeah you know, as the #20 all time user on this app, it feels like I can’t go outside anymore without being bombarded by fans 😔 they go “are…are you the guy who gave us permission to wear long sleeve tops with shorts?” or “are you the guy that took the infamous Brooklyn pi.fyi meetup pic from an angle only a boomer dad would?” or “are you the dude who responds to clothing-related asks like Batman does to the bat signal?” 😔 I’m just a normal guy, I’m entirely unsure how to handle the weight that comes with fame 😔 and before you ask…please, no more autographs 😔

I accidentally made myself famous within my college class by posting every day on my main instagram account about myself and my day. Cons: I live in the fear that someone might know me and I don’t know them and actually I am super shy.

I started using Substack back in 2020 and for the next several years I was a diehard evangelist to anyone in my life who would listen. But now, once it is everywhere and everyone is there, I kinda can't stand it.
Also I don't really like what this says about me. Ugh.
(But realistically part of the reason that I'm no longer a superfan is the Notes feed, the live and streaming video, meme-y photos, the social media style posts, the posturing, and self-importance, the casual impressiveness. Ick.)

I feel like there’s a special connectivity on this app that I haven’t felt in a long time, maybe since early 2010’s tumblr. The fact that you can’t promote yourself like IG is wonderful. The fact that there isn’t mass video content like Tik Tok is great. It’s not this monetized / paid sponsorship app. People are here because they want to be a part of something with nothing to gain besides friendship. Seeing the URL -> IRL meetups warms my heart so much (waiting for an NYC or Brooklyn meetup).
Thanks for your participation on this niche little app. I smile reading all the recs and all the comments and all the asks. Hope we’ll all be here for a long time.

I think a life rule for me is to surround myself with people who know more / are smarter / are cooler than me and just absorb their aura by listening / observing them. It’s made me the incredibly smart / cool person you all know and love.
I just never thought I’d feel the same way about URL friends. I’m constantly listening to the songs I see posted here, reading the articles, subbing to newsletters, and googling topics that get tossed onto the feed.
It’s nice to know you can become a more rounded person by just absorbing what your mutuals post on here. I’m going to sit on my couch, have a cocktail and digest my lovely feed. Happy Sunday!
