When I lived in the city and wasn’t biking, I’d snag a free newspaper before hopping on the train or bus and do the crossword. Also a big fan of reading a book or simply listening to music and daydreaming.

whilst travelling on the train with a friend, i picked up a newspaper and flicked through to the back to try my hand (and brain) at a crossword. what followed was disgruntled noises and writhing in our seats, we struggled BIG time and were lost for words ! however, the gratification of solving a few clues was enough for me to buy a pocket crosswords collection book. i try to do one every day (preferably in the morning with breakfast) and i'm gradually getting better at them. it's improving my vocabulary and keeps the brain rot at bay! we can take a few life lessons away from crosswords, such as patience, not overthinking shit (when i think less, the answers come to me) and always double check the fineprint !

The success of my day primarily relies on how well (or more often than not, badly) I do on my crossword. At the moment I am loving the NYT app on my phone - it also offers a more accessible ‘mini’ crossword, as well as the wordle. However, now and again I’ll buy a copy of the New Yorker, flip straight to the last page, and do a physical crossword over an oat milk flat white - my slice of paradise 🥰

My sibling brought copies of their student newspaper home for the holidays, and it’s been so fun to complete the crosswords by hand! It taps a part of the brain that I so rarely use and gets me to think creatively. One of my goals this year is to have more tactile hobbies, ones based in physical media, and between this, reading, and completing puzzles, I’m spending significantly less time on my phone than usual.

Humans have always danced. It is part of who we are, yet we have been conditioned to be self conscious, to think that we do not move our bodies good enough. Dancing is beyond judgement. Dancing is not a skill, it is our soul moving through our bodies, expressed in movement. Dancing is healing. Dancing is bodily autonomy. Dancing is FUN! Any feeling you are feeling can be moved through with dance yet even alone, you fear looking foolish. Kill the judge in your mind, shut the fuck up, and MOVE 🌊
