if you're a coffee head- koffee mameya for elite beans/tasting experience tonkatsu maisen aoyama - I think about this tonkatsu often yoyogi park - great for people watching + general chilling kushiwakamaru - yakitori spot, there might be a wait but it will be worth it kappabashi street - packed with restaurant supply stores/places to get really nice knives, or just cute reasonably priced culinary souvenirs e.g. sake sets higashiya ginza - recommend trying a set course here if you're interested in japanese traditional sweets/tea galerie dentsdelion - amazing antique store

JAPAN, AUTUMN 2017

i went to tokyo, kamakura, and kyoto. fave moments: - visiting yasujiro ozu's grave in engaku-ji, kamakura - shodō (calligraphy) workshop, tokyo - celebrating my 25th birthday in kiyomizudera, kyoto - shopping at big love records, harajuku, tokyo - eating ramen at afuri, harajuku, tokyo (so good, i ate there twice) hope to go back there soon

Particularly when traveling to Tokyo, where there are like a dozen different places in Shimokitazawa, Nakameguro, Shinjuku or Roppongi that feel like my platonic ideal of Japanese culture/society. Sit in your booth, put your earbuds in, float on a sea of tonkatsu broth. Ahhhh.
