Do I find myself being a reply guy sometimes? Yes.
Does it brings me joy whenever my friends or someone unexpected replied to my stories? Yes.
Would you still reply to their stuff if you genuinely donāt give a shit and they uninterest you but not to the level you mute their content? No.

Last night at a bar while talking up a band I love I caught myself putting a separate but related band down. On the way home it bothered me that I did that, and itās still bothering me this morning. I wish I had just focused on the thing I liked and the things I like about it rather than putting down the thing I donāt. It didnāt make my point any clearer and it didnāt make me feel good.
Weāve made such a currency out of putting things down, I wonder what would happen if we all spent a week only talking up things we like and left the things we donāt alone. We might sleep just a little better.
P.S. the thing I like most about this space is that itās built to support exactly this type of thinking and sharing.

been running my newsletter project for a few months now - it makes basically no money and takes up a ton of my time, and iāve frequently considered dropping it due to the tight budgetary situation iām in atm. i am always glad i choose not to, and the reason why is simple - it is a project that people like enough to tell me directly that they like it, and that gives me motivation to keep being creative in my life generally
big joel has this video where he says something along the lines of āitās totally fine to make things because you think they will be popular, because youāre a human being and itās natural to want to be recognized by other human beings.ā of course you shouldnāt cater your entire worldview and personality for the whims of others, but it is perfectly fine (and frankly necessary for your mental health) to, from time to time, make a thing primarily because you think people will like it. it will give you the necessary confidence for you to pursue the moonshot when the time comes
