i don’t read too many, so i don’t have a fav short story and this isn’t too eerie, either, but this one i just vividly remember reading in early middle school. i was such a fast reader that whenever we read something independently in class (like this) i’d start reading other parts of the textbook or whatever library book i had lol

is anything by RB a deep cut? no. and yet.. i remained uninitiated until now. this creepy tale of a carnival rolling into a small town goes undeniably hard. gorgeous prose, genuinely disorienting scenes, a really tender look at boyhood and aging. it’s fall where i live and i can’t imagine a better season to crack this one open.

a good collection of sci-fi and other fiction short stories of his that I enjoyed reading last summer. snagged a nice vintage copy at half price books for cheap. the way the book is marketed makes it seem like it’s all creepy stories but there’s a lot of thought provoking stories and some really sweet ones too

my fav short story collection, I literally think about "the long rain", "the highway", and "kaleidoscope" so much! insanely good to listen to on a road trip, especially on the way back home.

being traditionally cool is really quite boring and iterative, and it’s actually very cool and sexy to geek out about something you like or share bits of knowledge on a topic you’re passionate about

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WORKER’S DAY!!!! i love having a union, i love being a union steward and getting to support my unit. when my union won its contract, i got a pay bump, better benefits, and increased protection as a worker. 🥳 unions help address racial and gender pay gaps, issues workplaces impose on families and those having kids, addressing unsafe conditions, plus things like better health insurance, wages and overtime, weingarten rights to representation, and more!!! if you don’t have a union but are thinking about forming one, check out AFL-CIO’s page (linked) or Emergency Workplace Organizing Committee. there’s always more power in a union!! ✊🥖🌹

i had it for a little over a year until i was like wow this is actually terrible! i genuinely think it has negatively impacted society by ruining people’s attention spans, having a horrific algorithm, and most of all by the most mind-numbing or outright harmful trends - fake words that people now use IRL (“unalive”), trad wife tiktok, shein hauls, body-focused fitness vids that encourage fatphobia and unhealthy habits, shallow political/feminist theory and queer discourse, “alpha male” podcaster tiktok, encouraging overconsumption in general, trends ruining local spots or niche things… the list goes on
