can be emotionally laborious but it is almost always worth it imo. telling someone how they made you feel is an act of kindness both to yourself and to the person who made you feel shitty. people will often surprise you with their responses

A) I’m sorry that happened, that’s an insensitive thing to joke about and it reflects poorly on their character, I’m sure it sucked to hear. I know that having peace/civility with roommates is important, and that it can feel crappy to be the one that voices discomfort when everyone else seems okay with it. B) You don’t have to go out of your way to address it, but if it comes up again, you can always say “I’m not comfortable talking about a classmate this way” — that isn’t a judgement about them, it’s just you announcing a personal choice. The lever of social shame should remind them that if you’re uncomfortable with it, maybe they should be as well. But also, it’s okay if you’re not comfortable saying that— you aren’t responsible for reminding other people to be kind, and it’s okay to choose your battles in a shared living space.

I don’t know why so many people feel the pathological urge to point the blame at literally anyone other than themselves. Admitting fault is a strength, not a weakness. If you tell me you fucked something up I’ll respect you so much more than if you deflect and try to point blame.

As an Only child that’s struggled with social anxiety since forever, i have always enjoyed going to shows & functions & restaurants & doing whatever by myself. Im used to it & it’s natural & comfortable. I’m consistently reminded how ironically this behavior has both filled my life with such amazing people & has helped practice how I show up in social settings & lessen anxiety. feeling grateful this sunday

honestly recommend so hard. at least for women, I know a lot of clothes I buy are almost just right. something small is off, something doesn’t fit right in 1 area of my pants or shirt in the chicago neighborhoods ive lived & visited there’s often a local tailor & it’s not expensive and makes such a huge difference!
