You’re gonna jump if AG (and Finn Keane) made it. This album came out after everyone had already published their “best of 2023” and is therefore criminally overlooked. Although Soft Rock is wide-ranging in genre (from the guitar-driven rock of Sentence to the neo-medieval lament O Fortuna), emotion (from the proto-brat Heavy to the heartbreaking Lost Everything), and theme (love, friendship, myth, the music industry), it comes together into a remarkably cohesive and fully skipless jewel box of an album.

this album rocks. it just feels like everyone in the band was firing on all cylinders. every little imperfection makes it so much more charming. everyone wants to shit on the lead guy’s vocals and bad lyrics or the weird MIDI keyboard frogs on The Perfect Kiss but i think this album has so much unique charm to it. Elegia is one of the coldest tracks ever recorded.

This album goes hard from start to finish, mixing cowboy chords with alt rock progressions. The title track will leave you pierced by loves lost arrow, while tracks like Berlin got Blurry will leave you toe tapping to the memories of nervously drinking and trying to fit in. and those are just Andrew Savage’s contributions. Every song by Austin Brown brings similar heat. Hypnotic tracks like Dust will hook you straight away with its driving power and irresistible mantra. By far one of my favourite album by the lads.
