I got a notification that my rec was ‘xth most popular in the app‘ yesterday. Admittedly a cool feature, but honestly it goes against what pifyi is about in my mind, in the same way we don’t have follower counts on our profile, or cant see the amount of likes on a post at a glance, I don’t think we need to notifications like these either.

The other day i opened the app and I had no notifications - and I felt bad!
Another day I had a couple dozen and was happy.
I don’t think that’s how this app needs to be. Likes are meaningless and I don’t want to know about them.
I want the little number at the bottom of the app to show if someone commented or mentioned me, or started following me. A lot of the time that will be zero, and that would be great. We just need a checklist of notifications where we can choose which we want.
I know, notifications bring dopamine and make people want to open the app all the time.

I find myself instinctively looking at posts differently now that I see a like count, even though that should mean nothing to me.
The notification counter is similar. I would like to ignore it, but the numbers make that impossible.
I expect these things increase engagement statistics, and maybe that’s crucially important, but they make my experience worse.

took a spontaneous trip to see the new alien movie today
ive never been to see a horror movie alone at the cinema before so it felt all the more immersive for me, would recommend going to get scared alone even if you’re a scaredy-cat like me :)
