This actually happened the year after I graduated hs but learning about the incident though my best friends made me realize our replacement band director was, indeed, a massive creep and it wasn't just us holding onto our old teacher lol
Also I had an epiphany that lots of his behaviors were very predatory and gross towards myself and his other favorite students, and I'm 90% sure he would've done worse if I wasn't a senior when he first started teaching at our school tbh

my freshman year of high school i went to a new school and i didnt know how to do school well bc i have learning disabilities. it was an academically rigorous traditional school and i forgot to do my homework bc i was bad at planning ahead and like generally keeping track of things. anyway like the first week of this new school i get to class and got called on about the homework and i had to say in front of the class that i forgot. this teacher was known to be an odd ball/old school and he yelled at me and sent me out of class and asked me and told me only to return when i was prepared and ready to learn. needless to say i was stunned and packed up my stuff and ran out crying. i mean i was literally like 14.
this then became the folklore everyone told new students about this teacher and it got passed down but no one realized it was me and when i became like a senior i would tell freshman and they were like that was you?!?!
anyway this teacher years later got clocked for sexual misconduct and buying kids alcohol lol

i went to an all-girls boarding school in western Massachusetts. almost got expelled, DID get suspended for some dumb, regular teenage shit that the faculty reacted to like i was an actual felon instead of a 15 yr old, formerly homeschooled goody-two-shoes. anyway, it recently came out that one of the history teachers that has been there for 30 years was grooming and SA'ing girls and the faculty had been covering it up. luckily i was never involved with him, never had a class with him, but its still weird knowing that he was a dorm parent and would do week-end nightly check-ins in the dorms, he lived at school with us practically, had a house directly next to campus, etc. i wasn't close with him but i KNEW him, he gave me bad vibes, and now 30 years later all his shit and the schools shit is getting aired out. feels good to be vindicated in my suspicions and the unfair treatment of students at that hellschool but my heart goes out to the many victims, named and unnamed, that he violated over the years.

My steps:
1. Shut my phone down, hide it in my room, and lock the door so it's a pain in the ass to get to.
2. Be bored, and sit in the boredom for like 7-10 minutes (MINIMUM)-- once you're bored see what your brain gravitates to beyond The Screen (is it doodling? is it playing guitar? is it writing?)
3. Find the little thing your brain latches on to, and start doing it! Even if it's something goofy like "Just Dance youtube videos" to dance to LOL this is you, deliberately following your brain's natural curiosity & interest
And then rinse and repeat however you like <3 Once you get accustomed to the smaller, more gratifying feel good activities, social media starts to feel too overwhelming to even pick back up again-- you'll be reaching for it less and less
(a final aside: I am of the major belief that creativity & imagination is critical to creating a better reality to live in, because it shows that you're capable of leaning into what "doesn't exist", and are courageous enough to imagine and build a reality that defies the status quo. but that's just me LOL)
