deleting apps you don't need + decluttering apps off the home screen if you don't use it everyday, viewing or deleting every visible notification, and tucking instagram deep in the "other apps" group so i can slowly train myself not to just open it on autopilot when i look at my phone. what's your ideal home screen?

In addition to what others have already suggested, I’ve had pretty good luck with creating a separate screen for apps I’m ”allowed” any time while deleting or putting on a different screen/folder the apps I’m trying to limit. So for example my email, texts, notes app, DuoLingo and Kindle app are the only ones visible, encouraging me to read or write or study or catch up with friends rather than scroll infinitely on social media. That way if I’m still struggling to limit overall screen time (which I try to do by leaving my phone on the charger most of the day when possible), I feel like I’m at least making better use (for me personally) of the screen time I might be craving. 😅

Absolutely cannot take credit for this (my husband hipped me to the concept). Basically, you delete or hide most of your apps so you’re down to a bare minimum. I could probably stand to chop a couple more… but the idea is, you have less readily distracting you on your phone! Here’s my new home screen.

as a side effect of my job (and being me): I am chronically online and trying to fix that. this is my new home screen on my iPhone 15 Pro. I installed an app blocker so that when I shift into my custom minimal focus, only the default apps and what is on my home screen function. its only been a few days but this paired with journaling when I’m “bored” instead of endlessly scrolling has already had a positive effect on my mental health. I can still freely browse on my desktop, but my phone is slowly turning into less and less of a dopamine sink and I think I’m gonna stick with it!!
