the shell makes the snack. the little cracking sound as it snaps apart in your fingers is almost worth it on its own. i love sharing them (my mom and i used to do this often growing up) and watching them pile up. it’s messy, but not too messy. it’s fussy, but not too fussy. i like the taste too.

Shelling causes you to be mindful. You can't really go on your phone or computer while shelling. It's a nice, deliberate activity that I've been enjoying lately.

i’m over intermittent fasting. i’m over fasted cardio. i’m over starving myself. i’m into nourishing my body. recently watched some podcasts featuring dr. stacy sims and she explains how a lot of fitness advice is based on male physiology and is super detrimental to women based on our hormonal profile. eating (and drinking water) first thing in the morning makes me feel great in general and i can tell in the quality of my workouts. i‘m finding it very restorative to focus on how i can make my body feel good and function well versus agonizing over restricting myself. mentally, its a game changer. much better way to set the tone for the day. bonus recommendation dr. stacy sims on mel robbins’ podcast or on the huberman lab (if u want more weedy discussion)

saw it yday by myself, havent read anything, and only talked to one friend abt it so far, but initial reaction: i really liked it. at first i was kind of ”yawn white feminism” “yawn voyeuristic dom fantasy” but i liked the grayness of it and how clumsy their sub dom relationship was at first. that felt honest and funny. and though i guess the sex was important to the movie, it wasn’t really about that. ultimately, it seemed that puritanism and corporate feminism and the masking it encourages became the villain. and that i can get behind. i look forward to watching it again or hearing from others and seeing how my perspective changes. also i’ll watch nicole kidman in anything really and the shots of harrison dickinson in the tank w the little gold chain is my kinda female gaze.

yesterday, my family had collard greens & black eyed peas, a traditional new years meal to bring good luck, prosperity, etc. i‘m realizing for the past couple of years i’ve had a tradition of reading books w philosophical themes at the top of the year. i’ve done this somewhat unintentionally, but i think moving forward it’ll be an intentional undertaking. this year’s is night vision by mariana alessandri. past years’ include dinosaurs by lydia millet, song of solomon by toni morrison, and more i‘m blanking on rn.
