Those damn mormons… this author is so gripping. i’ve read much of his works as they really cemented my taste into nonfiction. This one is a dive into the fundamentalists and joseph smith and there is some insane history and theological discussion i just eat up.

The more I read this book the more I think that everyone should read it. Linguistics is fascinating to me and I know it’s not for everyone, but the author makes it so digestible and I’m just seeing connections between the “typical” way cults attract members and how politicians, main stream media, and corporations communicate/try to brand themselves. It’s smart and entertaining without making light of serious topics. I LOVE IT!!!!

dawg. this book. so full disclosure I’m not done yet but- I’m about half way through and I’m loving the absurdity of it all. It initially felt really odd to read so much Christian lore that I was unfamiliar with (i genuinely felt too Jewish for this book), but once it kept moving forward, the premise really took hold and i found myself enveloped by the writing!! The prose is immaculate too :) All in all, a great read (so far!) of surrealist fiction that keeps me on my toes.

Werner Herzog's Memoir. One of the most perniciously fantastic combination of story, philosophy, and ecstatic truth I have ever read. If you know nothing of this madman, consider reading just to become enamored of the ways in which life presents deep mystery and intrigue.

and waking up by the ocean to a thick fog morning. one of my favorite parts of my road trip, partly because it felt like we were getting away with something big ($1k fine if you’re caught sleeping at a pull off) and partly because it was only the 3rd of 16 nights car camping up the coast so the novelty hadn’t worn off quite yet.
