i havent utilized it yet, as the program is seasonal—but it resumes next month! they have flowers, herbs, and vegetables. you check out the seeds to plant at home, and the idea is that you return seeds from your plants after they grow (this part is optional though).

Or similar nonprofit org. A lot of them sell very fair-priced, well-grown seedlings in the spring as a fundraiser. Then you don’t gotta worry about seed germination or a destructive cold snap. But if you’re looking to grow a lot of flowers, seeds are much more economical — prairie moon nursery is great. Just make sure whatever you order fits your hardiness zone and isn’t overly invasive. edit: also check your local library for a seed sharing program — free seeds!

has taught me so much about like…faith and patience...& while caring for/harvesting plants, flowers and veggies has its own gradient of reward, this cursory lesson still hits every time imo. If you have access to even a friend‘s garden or somewhere to sow something you can check back in/care for I recommend it. Not exactly one of those ‘your garden is a revolutionary act’ types, but I do believe that there is a lot on offer in growing anything, starting with the alchemical-feeling activity of sprouting 1 seed into plant.
