plunderphonics is such a brilliant genre of electronic music. sampling taken to its limit. from DDS’s 2014 album Seawrld, this song combines Blow Me (One Last Kiss) by P!nk and By This River by Brian Eno. how do you even think to combine these things and why does it work so well? i first heard this song as the end credits music to an indie vaporwave game called Broken Reality. really fell in love with it but didn’t look into the samples. the other day im watching Y Tu Mama Tambien and i hear By This River. i immediately pause the movie, play all three songs, and am mind blown. musicians are so talented. big fan. love you.

lotus eater and suicide blades were my jam back in 2014. this album had a crazy impact on the soundcloud beat scene at the time too, everyone was making beats like this for a while afterwards. i’d say it’s aged pretty well, even in a time long past the over saturation point for ā€œlofi hip hopā€ it has a certain charm to its lush sample-based production that goes beyond the pastiche that defines the genre now and sounds pretty unique

TW: Suicide Hi, I don’t know how this app works lol This is my favorite album of all time. I Didn’t Mean To Haunt You by Singer, Producer, Director, Occasional Rapper and Former YouTuber, Quadeca. It’s a concept album from the perspective of a newly deceased ghost who killed himself before the album takes place, roaming this state of limbo he’s in. He passes through old locations like his childhood home, and sees familiar faces like his grieving mother. As he goes through this state of limbo, he sees the effects his death had on his friends and family, he begs desperately to be seen by the world around him, and in the end, he regrets his choice to end his life. The albums is kind of hard to describe as one genre. Some songs have elements of Industrial Hip Hop, some have events of Glitch Pop, others have elements of Singer-Songwriter. On albumoftheyear.org, it’s described as having the genres of Folktronica and Art-Pop. Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend listening to this album, it is so amazing, and really shows the artistic talent and evolution of Quadeca. FFO: Tyler, The Creator, Joji, Mid-Air Thief

Everything on Ghost Box records evokes the weird & eerie folk horror-infused atmosphere I love. I’m also obsessed with songs that feature someone straight up talking or reading over music, so this is checking every box for me at the moment. I’m also trying to make stuff like this myself rn and finding inspiration in their catalog, so Iā€˜m shuffling through their stuff and Advisory Circle and Pye Cornet Audio et al, all wonderful.
