wanted to do some retro fitness routine and found a video on the internet archive with this lovely woman. i was quite surprised by it for a few reasons:
1) there were women of all shapes in the video
2) she really focused on the idea of intentional movement and didnāt just throw herself around to do aerobic moves
i looked her up afterwards and found out that she sadly has been in a destitute situation for some time. luckily jamie lee curtis rediscovered her and thereās an upcoming documentary about her life coming out soon, on top of a memoir she published last year.
anyways imma find more videos and i hope she gets a more comfortable life āļø

Iāve had this youtube playlist for ages that I call my āinternet archiveā and itās full of videos that I find interesting but also feel are culturally significant. Theyāre mostly live performances with a mix of odd ball clips that I liked but also really special stuff I think wonāt be there forever.
Here is a list of my favourites
1. Camcorder footage of two guys driving around london in the late 90s while listening to the radio
2. RuPaul before he was the Queen of Drag, hanging round a corner shop in New York
3. A documentary filmmaker documenting various African American accents and dialects across the states.
4. A short doc called āDirty Girlsā about a group of teenager grunge girlies who are reacting to the news of Kurt Cobainās death and discussing how they all stopped washing their hair to honour him hence the title.
5. Marsha P Johnson reading her poem āYou gotta have soulā
Anyway, this is me recommending to you to begin saving videos that intrigue you because contrary to popular belief the internet isnāt actually forever.

idk how i came across this in my daily wikipedia surfs, but something about this painting just amuses me so much.
my first impression was this looks fairly modern in a way, possibly because of the composition and how she made her features so light and bouncy. it oddly made me think of disney when i looked for longer. then i see it was made in 1909 š
this painting can transcend times and i wouldnāt truly know when it was made unless i looked more closely at the objects around the subject. but even that can be a stretch as vintage items can be popular amongst anyone and they can just have their vanity setup look like this.
i tried looking for photographs of her online but alas nothing came up with certainty.

i saw something on here a day ago about how fireflies are disappearing and lightly catastrophized the scenario. but then as i regulated myself i looked up an article lightly extinguishing my concerns.
so as i look at the copious little flickers out my window, ill be glad to tell you that while firefly populations are decreasing, some firefly species are adapting to new environments trying to prosper and evolve. big causes for their decline are obvi climate change, urbanization, and light pollution. a simple way for you to not make things bad for the fireflies in your area is to not use pesticides on your lawns if you have them. they spend most of their lives in the ground so it starts at the soil.
additionally, every article i see with the salacious title about ālast generation to see firefliesā seems to be blocking out a lot of things about current firefly populations. most of the fireflies on the IUCN red list they keep mentioning are marked vulnerable or least concern. so there is a possibility a species or more of fireflies may disappear, but all of them i donāt think so.
