what’s this tender, soft, beautifully color graded dream? I haven’t felt such tenderness in so long and I’ve hardly ever seen something as romantic as this. this movie was so ahead of its time: letting go of love and finding someone new is so terrifying and looking for it in AI is something that is getting realer by the day. it’s scary, dystopian, unethical. why did this movie made me not feel any of this? maybe I loved the relationship between Theodore and Samantha because it felt so incredibly human. I resonate with his loneliness, his desires and fears so I think that’s also why I never thought of him as ā€œweirdā€, sympathy and empathy can really make you understand anything.Ā  PS: my love for Joaquin Phoenix seems to be growing by the day

Something cool about this is that Spike Jonze and Sofia Coppola were married and divorced in 2003. He made ā€œHerā€ and she made ā€œLost In Translationā€ each about the dissolution of their marriage. I’d recommend watching them together šŸ’–

I went into this film entirely blind having heard nothing about it and I loved it. I felt so moved by it in a way I haven’t by a film in a while. So subtle but somehow very tactile in its depiction of isolation and depression. Daisy Ridley is perfect in it.

Rewatched this on Valentine’s Day when I was feeling down and it made me giggle for the first time in weeks. this movie is inexplicably human and to an extent everything we are told we are not supposed to do — waste away a day and fall in love with a stranger. In the end, the movie is about giving in — to ourselves, to our deepest desires no matter how impractical.

I took a page out of justheretofillthevoid’s book and watched a movie shortly after waking up, while drinking my coffee. It was lovely and something I expect to do more often! Something I loved about this movie is it felt real. It wasn’t a stretch of the imagination to think these characters exist, or love each other. Seems small but a lot of movies get it slightly off, so I appreciate it when it happens. As most people have shared, yes this move is about grief, but I think they did a phenomenal job of showing generational trauma. That which isn’t dealt with, in this case because it was so atrocious and their grandma just needed to survive, is passed down until it demands to be felt. Overall, a very human film that made me feel a lot of thingsšŸ’—
