so much content so much "aesthetics." Where are the STATEMENTS??? What's your point of view? Stacking a bunch of visual / sonic / aesthetic signifiers on top of each other does not make something interesting.

I’ve gotta hit you back w some contrarianism on this one - is it possible to put enough energy into the aesthetics that they generate new thought patterns in the viewer, making the statement the creation of countless unique statements, without the artist explicitly saying anything themselves? I’m half thinking out loud here, I think this is possible but I’m not sure how *new* those thought patterns can be anymore

hhtthhtthhttht I think it's totally possible - and when I say, "say something" I don't mean that I am looking for explicit statement from the creator. I think what I am trying to get at is, to me in the current milieu I feel that aesthetic novelty takes precedent over expressing a strong point of view. But I could be missing the point (generating new thought patterns in the viewer...). I also might just be getting old - maybe my expectations for what art / music / culture should be are outdated.

propanecowboy ahh ok I see. Yea I’m blaming the IG feed for that one, you can tell when someone is thinking more about how the work is going to sit in the algorithm, reach a data-proven audience by aping vibes or catching attention quickly vs. someone who’s thinking about the work as an extension of their personality or as a chapter entry into the experiment of art. And I get why it’s tough to resist the first option, the market rewards it. But the money can’t be the goal in my opinion, just something to hope for

I think I would like them if they were treated like creative projects instead of 24/7 infomercials. There's a lot of creators that can really make some amazing art or convey thoughtful ideas in 1-3 minutes but instead we're all shouting into the void using trends to say a lot of nothing most of the time.

What’s stopping you from putting rainbow unicorn stickers all over your paintings? Who said art has to be serious all the time? Bring back maximalist art!

Building lore is crucial in this day and age. Sometimes not getting your picture taken at the function is ok. Refrain from posting banalities on your story when possible. Exercise deconstructive maximalism. Being an artist rather than an “Artist” is back, if you catch my drift.

to me this is one of life’s most simple joys - especially during the winter. The combination of not driving + the heat from the pie keeping your legs warm + direct pizza fumes provides a precious and rare sensory experience
