i was in washington DC last month and the whole time i was in awe of how much art and history and science and culture you could just go and experience completely for free. i paid $0 to go in look at this beautiful painting that could’ve been sold to some rich guy for a jillion dollars instead. i often feel like everything is out to squeeze everything out of me that it can so i really value that we have things that exist just to enrich our minds and souls

Lived in DC for almost 5 years and worked at the Smithsonian. Didn’t realize how good we had it till I moved back to Chicago!

i just always get so excited by how much there is to learn and see like i now work in a museum and i’m always getting distracted by reading everything - highly recommend visiting your local museum especially if it’s free

there’s something so intimate and satisfying about getting wholly immersed in a story for hours and hours. on a related note, the unabridged paperback edition of les misérables is so long that if you attempt to bring it on a plane, the TSA scanner will flag it as a suspicious object and they’ll search your backpack by hand. just in case anyone was wondering
