Watching this movie sort of felt like a rite of passage for two reasons. 1. I guess it’s a quintessential Canadian stoner movie. And 2. It’s a movie my dad has been referencing since I was a little kid. Obviously, some of the jokes in this movie haven’t aged too well, but overall I’d say it’s a real fun movie that can be surprisingly sweet at times. I had a ball. God bless Micheal Ontkean. Watch Slap Shot.

It’s my mom’s favorite movie and in my dad’s top 5. Just watched it for the first time while visiting for Easter and WOW, I did not expect to like it this much. It’s funny and smart and action-packed. And at the end of the day, it really is a movie about guys being dudes.

funny documentary about a working class midwestern guy just trying to get his film made. feels like a mockumentary but it’s real. bittersweet with a looming sadness, but if anything it’s hopeful. definitely inspired napoleon dynamite and hot rod

I’m sure you’ve seen it, but if it’s been awhile (it had been for me) I recommend a re-watch. My mom‘s husband had been politicking for its election as our annual x-mas watch for years and I was finally out-voted in its favor this year; I can admit I was wrong. I was near to sobbing by the end and its old-timey-ness did not detract from the incredible writing, pacing, and understanding of the human condition, rendering it - actually - time*less*.

This movie took me a little bit to get into, but I’m chalking that up to its less than ideal English dub, therefore I suggest you watch it in the original Japanese version with subtitles. Very visually beautiful movie with a very creative concept, it’s made by the same creators of Perfect Blue and Tokyo Godfathers just so you know what to expect.

I was a hardcore Yerba mate hater until I tried the Guayaki “Enlighten Mint” flavour. I still think the majority of Yerba mate is gross but I will continue to drink them in massive quantities.
