the film seems to have polarizing opinions but i thought it was slightly flawed yet fun…anyways dina, simone and 35mm are actually a gift. when dina, simone played during the movie i made a mental note to check for it on streaming later. it was the first thing my friend and i said to each other once the lights came on in the theater.

the poor things soundtrack

i have my criticisms of the movie but the brilliantly grating, ecstatic, soaring score is not one of them!!! i can think of few other soundtracks in such perfect sync with the vibes of the film

i saw the tv glow soundtrack

(spotify link) you thought i was done recommending things about this movie? nice try! soooo many good songs on this soundtrack, and several of the musicians make cameos in the film to "perform" diegetically. in particular, Caroline Polachek’s Starburned and Unkissed is a killer standout track, and it is deployed with absolute precision in the movie itself

trent reznor & atticus ross’ score for ‘challengers’ (2024)

i might be a little late to this one (the ephemeral and deeply reactive pace of culture is something i’ve always struggled to keep pace with), but i haven’t been able to listen to anything else all week!! that reznor still has the chops to mastermind music that’s every bit as propulsive and vivacious as his output from the nineties is about as revelatory as the film itself — which, in my opinion, indubitably cements luca guadagnino as a genuine giant in contemporary cinema. do your ears a favor and play it loud, but not without treating your eyes to the film first ;P some especially pronounced highlights: - ‘yeah x10’ (crunchy, sleek and catchy — what’s more to love?!) - ‘brutalizer / brutalizer 2’ (so good it shows up twice) - ‘match point’ (the apex of an instantaneously classic motif, and only half as engaging as the climax to which it backdrops!)
