Swim for twenty minutes. Or walk a mile to get coffee. Take the stairs up to my 13th floor apartment. Ten min beginner barre in my living room. The gym turns me gray, inside and out and I am over it.

i can't spend my hard earned money on a gym membership in this economy. gyms make me uncomfortable anyway, so home workout is the way to go for me. i love madfit on youtube for apartment-friendly, no equipment exercises. i'm not the most athletic person, but i'm trying to be consistent with my workout, doing it at least once a week. i've been doing the 20-min full body workout for the past month, and now gradually working my way up to 30 and then 45. also trying to get back on the more focused exercises, like abs, upper body, etc. bc i've been slacking off for a while.

I walked the mile all of high school which says everything it needs to about my athletic abilities, but discovering in my 20s that I don’t need to punish myself at the gym with workouts that I don’t enjoy (or are straight up too hard for my body) has been a revolution for me. I found “my“ routine that I do pretty much every time I’m at the gym and it allows me to read a book at the same time, study lines, etc. “Do what you like and what feels good” is not only a mostly good life mantra, but it perfectly applies when it comes to how you decide to move your body 😘

*unless it‘s something cool and interesting, like skiing or scuba diving. every time I start going to the gym I become more uptight and less funny. plus, my taste in music goes to shit because I start listening to high-bpm edm while on the stairmaster. not to mention, we could use more chubby guys with a 70’s-character-actor type of look. spend those 5 hours a week doing something more interesting. a weekly hike is enough exercise.

My toaster is having a bad week so she doesn’t have the energy to hold the lever down anymore. Which means I have to stand there pressing it down for three minutes making sure my toast doesn’t burn. I used to take that time for granted, now it’s being robbed of me by my broken toaster. Trying to give her grace.
