ever been in a bind where it’s your friend’s birthday and you don’t have a card yet? and then you have to go to cvs or target for a silly card that’s obviously last minute. what if instead you buy the perfect card once you see it?? $20 now is money saved later. or just keep the card for yourself. who cares!!!

I feel the struggle. I too am in college with a lot of friends birthdays coming up. 9/10 I let them know I have thought of what to get them but let them know that money is tight and say it might be late. And then i go out and buy kids cards, especially ones with like the numbers on them and just add on to it, so like say i have a friend turning 23, I'd get them either a card for a 2 year old and draw a three on there or a card for a 3 year old and tack a two to the front. Double the point if it comes with a cheep sticker, coloring pages, a plastic key chain, or deconstruct the card to make something out of the card. So far this method hasn't failed and has given plenty of laughs and impromptu phone calls when it arrives in the mail!

found this while shuffling through a bin of old cards and was immediately floored when I remembered my friend who would love this the most has a birthday coming up.

This is partially inspired by an anti-rec I saw on here and a conversation with a friend. Lol I’m here to defend gift cards as a gift! I seriously love them! I grew up in a not so financially stable household and I’m still in my mid twenties, so spending anything literally on myself that’s not groceries or housing, I feel guilty for! So when my boss, after a conversation we had about how I like going to the movies for fun, got me a movie theater gift card for Christmas, I was actually so hyped. Movie theater tickets are expensive and sometimes not in my budget, but she granted me that experience without any doubt. It was so fun. I took my partner and his little sister. Another example, my friend is an athlete and loves getting massages and trips to the chiropractor so she loves getting gifted a gift card to those clinics. Another example, I told my sister that my ā€œdown badā€ meal was Mendocino Farms. I would order it everytime I was having a bad day. We’re besties and couldn’t hang out cause of living in different cities. If she were to get me a gift card to Mendocino Farms, I would’ve literally cried. It would’ve showed that she cared for me, even at my lowest. Another example, I have a friend who has to commute to work and tends to eat out often. He says chipotle is his favorite and is aligned with his training/diet. So naturally, he was happy when he got gifted a chipotle card. Of course a general target/visa gift card is wack, but a gift card with context? ;) *chef’s kiss* At the end of the day, gifts are lovely and it always matters about intent!
