i was in georgetown dc and me and the flame were about to walk past a homeless person begging for food outside a cvs. unexpectedly a young woman walking a little in front of us, peeled off her headphones and started talking to her. headphones girl went into the cvs and bought that food for her. i was mostly shocked, being georgetown, but it felt great to see that.

Sincerity alert! This week in the Shop Rite parking lot a man who was on the phone pushing a massive shopping cart in the freezing cold stopped and very patiently used DIY sign language to let me know my lights weren’t on and we had a laugh on opposite sides of the windshield once I figured it out. Last night at the bar someone clocked that I was starting to freak out looking for my jacket (it was my aunt’s) and helped me find where it had been buried under a winter coat. A lady driving past while I was walking into the office slowed down to tell me she liked my outfit. The holidays are nuts but people everywhere are taking the time to be kind and friendly with no benefit to themselves it just warms my heart I guess!!!

was taking out recycling at the same time as my downstairs neighbor and was like "BONJOUR HELLO I JUST MOVED IN MY NAME IS NICOLE" and she smiled and was like "oh! welcome! good luck with all of it!" on my road trip i saw an older man wearing a longhorns hat (out of tx) and walked up to him and said "i love your hat, sir. hook 'em!" and he seemed surprised that I was talking to him, but he GRINNED and said softly "well, thank you"

had the loveliest conversation with a homeless man for almost 3 hours today. spoke of religion, hypocrisy (Jehovah’s Witnesses preaching God while ignoring him and this other homeless woman, eating their meal in front of her while she’s asking them for food), his life and family, poetry (he's just begun writing poetry and has written two, recited them for me and both were lovely but one in particular was genuinely beautiful, called ā€œan ode to the reckless joy of youthā€). dude’s been through a lot but has such dogged optimism through it all. it takes a certain strength of spirit to live through everything a lot of these people have been through, and there’s never an uninteresting perspective. greatly recommend giving them your time if you’ve got it to spare (as well as a meal or a quick Walgreen’s run).

idk how i came across this in my daily wikipedia surfs, but something about this painting just amuses me so much. my first impression was this looks fairly modern in a way, possibly because of the composition and how she made her features so light and bouncy. it oddly made me think of disney when i looked for longer. then i see it was made in 1909 šŸ˜‚ this painting can transcend times and i wouldn’t truly know when it was made unless i looked more closely at the objects around the subject. but even that can be a stretch as vintage items can be popular amongst anyone and they can just have their vanity setup look like this. i tried looking for photographs of her online but alas nothing came up with certainty.

i saw something on here a day ago about how fireflies are disappearing and lightly catastrophized the scenario. but then as i regulated myself i looked up an article lightly extinguishing my concerns. so as i look at the copious little flickers out my window, ill be glad to tell you that while firefly populations are decreasing, some firefly species are adapting to new environments trying to prosper and evolve. big causes for their decline are obvi climate change, urbanization, and light pollution. a simple way for you to not make things bad for the fireflies in your area is to not use pesticides on your lawns if you have them. they spend most of their lives in the ground so it starts at the soil. additionally, every article i see with the salacious title about ā€œlast generation to see firefliesā€œ seems to be blocking out a lot of things about current firefly populations. most of the fireflies on the IUCN red list they keep mentioning are marked vulnerable or least concern. so there is a possibility a species or more of fireflies may disappear, but all of them i don’t think so.
