I worry about wasted time. Adventures, meaningful weeks, good memories, take so much effort and I often don’t have that drive. I graduated a few months ago, did nothing to celebrate, done nothing since, just slept and dove into new responsibilities. Milestones have gone by with fizzles rather than bangs. A life worth living is a life that needs making, effort, time, intention, I just need to want that

i understand ur struggle, and its a very real thing to feel as though you have no identity in a capitalistic society that "sells" you your personality and interests. the best thing i reccommend you do is to unlearn that behavior first. unlearn to rely on items as a means of self expression. yes ofc fashion and makeup are great ways to express who you are (things that i love and partake in) but its important to recognize that this is a behavior we are taught; you buy something in the hopes it will achieve something, like how we buy band tees even tho we're total posers because we want to seem cooler than we really are. to live authentically and to discover who you really are as a person, you need to question WHO you are. what are your values? what are your thoughts on life? how do you feel about your existence? our life on this earth is limited and this is something everyone, regardless of religion, can agree on. instead of trying to find your identity thru what you can purchase, try to find it by questioning what it is you want from life. eventually, you will find that as you explore your values, morals, and desires you will naturally gravitate towards things that fulfill that. for example, i have a personal interest in human health and biology and i explored this interest by learning about nutrition. now, i love to cook and i love to make my own recipes. finding yourself shouldnt feel like a task that needs to get done. its more so something you do for the rest of your life, even as u die. to live is not "to find yourself", but rather to live a life that feels fulfilling. hope this helped!

i get that this could sound a bit counter intuitive buttttt hear me out. i am currently 6 days into a gap year as i've just finished high school and was thinking a lot about what i should do with my time and this was the conclusion i came to. there are so many things i think are deeply interesting but don't know anything about and i know i won't go into a career in many of those things, soooo i thought i would excercise some autonomy and do stuff that feel like "a waste of time". EG - right now i am sat in someones house in Hannover (Germany) because i'm vollunteering at a rehabilitation centre for people who have just received cochlear implants. i know that i will never go into the medical field but i just thought it was so interesting and i love people. I've done this purely out of interest. this year i'm planning on doing more of these things; painting a mural in my room, learning how to make creme brulee, going to talks and lectures, learning how to play a sitar ect. none of these have anything to do with my career at all, i just think we can get so into our jobs that we never engage in anything outside of it. be radical and do stuff just because you can!!!! write down everything you are interested in (could be anything) and explore a way you can engage in them. THINK ESPECIALLY ABOUT THE THINGS YOU LIKE BUT ARE NOT NATURALLY GOOD AT!! soz this was so waffley but i just found myself in the same position and wanted to help πŸ’‹

So vulnerable, I have to be sincere. European and American art galleries historically are not only promoters of great art, they are creators of markets. That may be where you could shift focus. Your worth is that you are young, eating rat, living a life of passion, filth, messiness, body horror (per my comment on such) unique and unknown to those with money. They crave you, not for your art. That's worthless to them. The art, as photographs per Sontag in my other rec, is simply a receipt that they owned a piece of your lifestyle for a moment. No one who will buy your art will likely give a fuck about your art. Stop seeking those. Find the Glengarry Glen Ross customers seeking life, escape from drudgery, a need to prove something to themselves. Let your art be that for them. Enough bs theory, now for implementation. You won't sell your art, but you can sell the frustration, bloodsweattears, dedication, sacrifice that drips from your post. You can do so by simultaneously reminding yourself you are not creating ART but CREATING art. Your work and worth is not on a canvas. It's not the art. It's in you, the artist.

A model friend/client and I stepped out from dinner for a smoke and were having a tipsy discussion about an issue with her company. Some doorman came up to tell us to move because we were blocking the entrance, which we weren't. I was irked, but my friend guessed he likely stereotyped her being in a lover's quarrel. Irked for a different reason, I called out, "Dude, we're discussing business! She's my boss!" In hindsight, I appreciated how he handled what he mistook as a domestic dispute by creating a false diversion to redirect our attention. Most people get involved in others' drama because they think they know better. Most people don't because they're insecure they're misunderstanding. He was appropriately in between.
