Go to a yard sale or flea market near you. Someone will be selling a cheap stratocaster model with a horrible 90s amplifier. You can talk them into giving you at least 10 bucks off. Someone else will be selling a digital keyboard that's been sitting in attic so long that the keys are all yellow. Pick one of these and take it home, then look for a tutorial of a song you like on YouTube, there's always a few dozens on there. This is how a person becomes a musician, and the rest will happen on its own

@ARISSA the most beautiful part of music is trying things out. I've been a musician for years and am just now learning to play piano, so I'm no better off than someone starting with music. It's never too late if you're confident!

For my dollar I will almost always prefer used music gear over new. Not only can you typically find something much nicer for the same price as a new instrument, but it’s a super cool feeling to pick up and play something that has stories to tell. Cigarette smoke stained plastic, dings and scratches from a previous life on the road, fret wear from channeling someone else’s creativity in a past life. It’s rad to feel like you’re just the latest steward of something that has had a long life before you! (for the nerds: I seek out cheap Japan-made Fenders, the J-bass is a ’99, Bullet is an ‘83 that I modded with Porter S90 pickups, the Peavey 2x12 is from ‘94. Everything in this pic together cost me like $800 excluding the pedals and case)

Sell a few crappy guitars to get one (1) good guitar
🎵
you should do it if you can. dont know what to play? make something up! or go on ultimate guitar and try to learn a song you like (theyve got practically every song). uncle stuart is a great teacher if video tutorials are more your style. make terrible music. make good music. make okay music. make music. i hope you are well, friend.
