I have lyrics from the last track tattooed on my arm bc I have been obsessed with MCR since I was 13ish. I will forever be grateful to have seen this album played in full last October at WWWY fest in Las Vegas. Genuinely a life changing moment for me!

It was 2010. My friends and I used to swap USBs full of .mp3 files (usually ripped from CDs we had borrowed at the library) and we were all curating these bloated itunes libraries on our parents desktop computers. I never listened to the radio so this album managed to pass me by. The first time I heard it, it was technically autumn but in every experiential sense it was winter and I was on the bus to school. I had time to listen to it twice. To this day, it’s one of my all time favourites and all my friends make fun of me for it. (I may be embarrassing but I commit 100%!)

I actually have a running list of favorite albums that I keep in my phone because usually when somebody asks me what my favorite of anything is, my mind goes completely blank and I forget any media I have ever consumed. This is an easy answer for me though, because I often say that this album imprinted on my little 14 year old soul. In general, I do feel that music from our teenage years sticks with us more than any other time. Probably something to do with where our whole beings are at developmentally. I’m sure someone has already looked into it. This album is such a comfort to me, and feels so much like… me. I got to see the 20th anniversary tour of this album and the Postal Service with my sister and you best believe I cried the entire time.

It’s incredible how many people genuinely think they are boring. There have been so many times I’ve spoken with people and they confess that they think that they haven’t done much with their life, or that they don’t have much interesting to talk about, but it’s almost never the case. From what I can tell, it’s often caused by a lack of knowing thyself. Or maybe a low self esteem? I’ve been through it too, and it is so so not true for anyone. You’ve done so much living. Why do you feel like your story is not worth telling? I know you’ve gone through some crazy shit once or twice. if you really haven’t, what’s stopping you from getting out there and creating stories to talk about? Start small! go to a coffee shop once a week. See if they have any clubs to join, and try that out! you’ll be making memories in NO TIME. If you have trouble finding meaningful/fun conversation, just remember that the effort must flow both ways. You are merely just working with what the other person is providing you, and if they aren’t giving you anything to work with, it’s not your fault. You aren’t boring, you are just around people who dont vibe with you. And that’s okay! Not every person is going to be your specific kind of person. Plus, if you aren’t having fun talking to them, why does it matter if they like you? the much cooler people who value your input are just around the corner. I promise. One day you’ll be able to shine your beautiful personality on someone who is equally as bright you are, you magnificent comet, you.
