yesterday my coworkers said they were gonna translate a bunch of materials using chatgpt into like 4 other languages and all i could say tactfully was uhhh maybe use google translate instead. openai has done such a disturbing job of convincing people that ai is capable of critical thought when it absolutely is not and is inherently incapable of generating information as reliably as a person can. you can tell chatGPT that the sky is red enough times and it'll start regurgitating that as fact. you can tell me the sky is red once and i will go outside and look at it and know you must be an idiot

Feeling unthreatened by ai

I know people are going to be using it a lot maybe for dumb menial stuff, but I have not had a moment where it felt compellingly as though it was going to “take over”. Everybody I’ve seen who has made that argument is somehow relying on it to be true, so I can’t trust them. I immediately judge anybody who tells me they use chatGPT for something related to their work. And I don’t think I’m being unfair. At best, something like chatGPT is a tool that people can use for brainstorming, but directly using chatGPT output is just pathetic to me. I dunno.

Actually I have another hater take. Sorry but I do judge you if you use this (or any other AI chat bot because apparently there are others?) and treat it as a source of truth.....very strange behavior. I thought we all thought it was dumb but I now hear people reference it's use in common conversation/at work as if it's not weird? Why are you all feeding the beast? Can we please use our brains? Use it or lose it, baby!

hearing my coworkers/classmates casually say “let’s ask chatGPT” instead of “let’s google it” makes me feel insane. i’m not even a strictly anti-AI person but it feels like overnight it became the default way of navigating EVERYTHING for people younger than me- i’m glad i’m not the only one who hates this.
