There is apparently going to be yet another mass layoff to the National Park Service workforce and which will cut or impact over 800 programs. The Resistance Rangers is a great website that shares news about things the government is doing that impact the parks, creates calls-to-action including having easy to copy, paste, and customize emails to send to different officials or letters to sign, and they also archive stories/pages that are being censored by the government.
I’m going to link the most recent post for what you can do with the copy/paste email section if anyone wants to take a minute to read.
Edit to add: there are also super easy petitions to sign, and more creative things you can do like giving you postcard prompt ideas and who to send them to. So much information available on the site!

it's something small but valuable in a time of digital censorship. use your judgment when looking at your news sources to find proper ones and keep a journal of the things happening in the country, whether it's big or small. I've been saving images and videos of things that I think will be suppressed and trying to keep a record of what's happening in case the information control gets even crazier in the future
something else I've been doing is downloading any (public domain) books I've been meaning to read (especially leftist theory) off of project gutenberg or the internet archive in case those sites get shut down.
also paying attention but trying to stay as calm as you can because they're trying overwhelm us and make us check out, which we can't afford to do right now. build community with the people around you, organize if you can, do mutual aid, start a garden, just to name a few more. there's so many ways to fight fascism, big and small

If any of you are attending a protest this weekend here are some things you should be aware of/safety tips -
• Saline works better than water/milk for tear gas
• You should be hydrating the day before and during the march
• Bring goggles (with no ventilation) and a face mask
• IF YOU ARE IN TEXAS - remember that we are in a red state and there are a lot of people who carry and support ICE, so be mindful of your surroundings and keep it peaceful !
— also be aware that our governor is an asshat who wants us to act out and get arrested to prove a point
• If you are undocumented, it may be best to stay home
• Carry American flags as well as Mexican/Palestinian
• Do not park too close to the site
• Leave your phone at home if at all possible - write emergency contacts on your arm
• Bring something to cover up tattoos/identifiable marks
• Bring a buddy and discuss a quick exit plan if necessary; also discuss a meet up spot if you get separated
• WATCH YOUR DISTANCE - as you’ve probably seen already, law enforcement is shooting people with rubber bullets at extremely close range. The closer you are to them, the more likely they are to target you.

I know I’ve ranted about AI before but! Just saw another writer who was doing peer reviews as she was writing chapters with another person; until she found out the other person was using AI for their NOVEL! Blows my mind. She removed this person from her document and sent her a kind but straightforward message about how she won’t be working with her going forward due to the AI usage. I feel like using it for novel writing is one of the most insane uses because #1 this person told me that the AI generated parts of the work weren’t even as good as the other person’s normal writing was. #2 let’s say no one noticed and you published with the AI work, so you would be okay if the book did well but it wasn’t even truly your writing that people would be praising?? Not to mention of course the morality and environmental impact.
Also, I was shopping around today for a custom leather stamp to start stamping the leather journal covers I make. Thought I found someone to make it until they said to send the logo file over and they’ll send back AI created renderings of a mockup to approve. Now I am starting the search all over🙃

Today was one of those bad days where it causes a headache and you feel exhausted from everything, but somehow a nice long walk outside made things seem a little better. Fresh air and thinking or daydreaming while listening to the sounds of outside.
I sometimes find myself taking for granted the place that I live, I work or I’m too tired and I use that as an excuse to not go outside more. Yet every time I get the chance to spend the time outside, I can’t say I ever regret it.
I’m going to make it a goal for myself to try and take a walk outside at least a few times a week.
