I’ll come back to confirm once I’ve completed it, but so far this is probably the best game I’ve ever played. The trailer does not do it justice, it’s brilliant. FFX was my favourite game growing up and it’s captured that feeling but updated it in a way that is so incredibly satisfying. some of the best combat I’ve ever played, and so very beautiful. Well acted, compelling story. It’s like a beautiful combination of all of my favourite games. Turn based combat but with real-rime elements (a bit like a much more developed Sea of Stars). plays on JRPG tropes (my fav character is the moody dark-haired magical woman) but less exaggerated, combined with the feel, exploration and traversal, and multicoloured whimsical landscape of my my favourite action adventure games (Most recently Kena and South of Midnight, but obviously my favourite Alice:Madness). Also love how I can essentially make it so my party is all women, never thought I’d see the day.

THE COSMIC WHEEL SISTERHOOD!!!! - I’ve rec’d it before cause it’s so good, if you love a good story this is defo for you. Its so so gorgeous (pic below is from it). You’re a witch who’s been in exile for centuries, who summons a demon to help. Choose your own adventure style story game with elements of collage (you make your own oracle cards). Night in the woods - a weird lil walking sim story game that feels like a graphic novel. Existential and dark and mysterious. Wylde Flowers - a cosy witchy farming and story game. i find pure farming/management sims a bit boring but this has a linear storyline which kept me entertained. Spiritfarer - such a moving game unlike anything else I’ve played since. You play as a psychopomp ferrying souls into the afterlife and carrying out their final wishes. Also if you wanted to get into more RPGs, I just finished Sea of Stars. It’s an adventure RPG with gorgeous pixel art. It’s made to have the nostalgia of old 90s RPGs, but you’d definitely be able to appreciate it without having played them. It has combat, but it’s turn based which might be easier for someone who isn’t as good at combat, and there’s relics you pick up that you can activate to make the fighting easier. Turn based combat in general is probably the way to go if you wanna move into fighting games!

The Huggin Molly and Ledoux chapters really did it for me and solidified it as one of my favourite games. The first half felt a lot like Kena: Bridge of Spirits, which I enjoyed the mechanics of but didn’t have a good story. This, on the other hand, had a great story that I was eager to see play out. The second half reminded me of Alice: Madness Returns (my all time favourite game) which made me so excited and scratched an itch that has been there since EA cancelled Alice Asylum. I have searched endlessly online the phrase “third person action adventure platformer with slash n hack combat, a female protagonist, and stylised graphics” mostly to no avail; in walked South of Midnight. And with magical realism and esoteric themes - my perfect game recipe.

Currently installing this as I type on a whim because I saw a trailer and I thought it might be a good follow up from just finishing replaying Alice:Madness Returns for the millions time. I was after 3D action adventure with hack n slash fighting, dark beautiful graphics and a female protagonist…so the choices were slim. Will report back if it’s any good!

I am by no means traditionally religious, but I fully understand how being in the presence of beautiful stained glass can feel like being with god. ALWAYS stop off at a church on the way if you think it might have good stained glass. The bluebells in the bottom right corner of this made me loose my breath for a moment.

I used to be envious of people who had “MySpace friends” or “tumblr friends”. Now I have PI.FYI friends. Thank you capyboppy for your lovely letter and this illustration of a capybara and a mouse with fruit on our heads, it made me weirdly emotional ❤️
