I’m 19 and from a coastal township in New Zealand. My mum is a fishmonger and I spent my teenage years working for her. I’m in my third year of an ecology degree (women in STEM 🙏). I find it Fascinating but I recently discovered I don’t think it’s going to be my dream job. I feel a bit lost for what to do with myself when I graduate, but I’m trying to find beauty in stepping into the abyss, not sure where my feet will land. I’m interested in trees and their ecologies, I love giving people random facts. I recently learnt that I like to dance, I don’t care what the music is, I just want to move. I like taking pictures, even if they aren’t very good and I like writing to myself. I fall in love easily, I think everyone is beautiful. I need more hobbies, and I’m still discovering myself, so I’m sure there will be more to add in due time :)

”My mum is a fishmonger.” would be a great first line for a poem. It’s nice to meet you!

I’ve danced my whole life and I do it constantly, doesn’t matter if music is playing, the rhythm lives within me. I’d love to get back into classes or a troupe of some kind. Now it’s nightly dance parties with my spawn, which is a really fun way to get that pre bedtime energy burst out. I also make hand drums with my husband and we sell them on the side. It’s a ritualistic and meditative process. It’s taken a bit of a backseat for me because my time is split mothering two small children, but when I get the opportunity I cherish it. I love baking, gardening, yoga, and reading, as many people do. The PI.FYI book club has been great for me. I’ve had dreams of picking up crocheting or knitting but honestly, I’m not patient enough to learn. I can do basic sewing but want to up those skills as well. Is reading tarot considered a hobby? Because I do that, too. Wow, just typing it out makes me feel so grateful 🥲

-baking & cake decorating is probably my main one(I also do it to an extent for work too) -sewing; all my clothes are either made, upcycled, or tailored by me -painting though I’m not the best at it but it’s relaxing -needlefelting it’s really accessible and relaxing. I take it with me to cafes and such for something to do with my hands and it’s a good conversation starter. I like to give random people free keychains and trinkets I make -music; I love to write songs and I play guitar and banjo, also taking voice lessons at the moment -”photography” I like to take Polaroids of my friends and things and decorate them with stickers and doodles -vintage doll and toy collecting I have too many things -cosmetics; love makeup too much and doing people’s hair -fashion; between making stuff, studying old runway shows, and learning whatever history I can

I honestly don’t do much with my hands it’s sad and pod person like of me but I can type at 140 wpm. I USED to play viola, draw, paint and collage (see pictured, I got really into using rough-edged masking tape as an harsh accent at one point) and I would love to pick these things back up. I loved to do journals that were like a scrapbook where I would affix little mementoes and papers and things. Thinking about getting into gardening in alignment with my ancestral legacy… getting in touch with my roots one might say. I always enjoyed propagating potting and planting plants/seeds with my dad growing up.

Look at the clouds and the stars. Learn their names and stories. Remember how small you are. Remember how important you are.
