Seconding toothpicks. Also not being around people who smoke or vape (hard one). Drawing the line for yourself (do drunk cigarettes bummed off strangers count? up to you to decide) I tried patches once but it gave me a rash. Also cold turkey is hard, I once had smoker’s flu for a week after cold turkey. If you sing, try to frame it that quitting will heal your vocal chords and you can hit more notes. That sort of worked for me. It’s hard. Also I personally still have drunk cigarettes. Someone told me if you’re drunk and pure of heart they don’t count. But I also don’t own a pack ever cuz I know I’ll chain smoke them. EXERCISE- if I’m jogging I’m not smoking cuz my lungs would die. I’ve noticed as soon as I stop going to the gym, my hankering for a smoke or vape increases. Props to you for quitting. dont beat yourself up if you relapse. I will pray for you, I don’t believe in god but consider it me sending you good vibes During this hard battle
@BOYDAHLIA yeah switching from vaping to zyns was life changing bc i could actually walk up stairs without dying but now ive been on the zyns for a year and its not chill! having friends who use nicotine too makes it sooo much harder haha. congrats to you!
I haven't quit nicotine before, but I have quit something different. Here's what helped me:
-Accountability. I started telling everyone who I trusted that I was going sober, especially my closest friend. It helped immensely because I simply didn't want to disappoint them!
-Toothpicks. My addiction wasn't oral-focused but it really did help because it's better to chew through hundreds of toothpicks in a week than relapse. Plus you look cool 😎
-New hobbies. I decided to go all-in with reading/poetry which I'm still doing. I used to paint, but I always painted while high so I didn't want to association. The point is, a new source of intrinsic motivation!
Knowledge is power!!
there’s a lot of info on the harms & effects of tobacco products. having factual evidence can make you want to stop knowing what it can do to your body. smoking/vaping affects all organs, not just your lungs!
Get support!!
let friends & family know you are trying to reduce/quit. Probably ones you trust the most and aren’t judging you for smoking. They can help keep you accountable or maybe do things instead of smoking
Track your progress!!
There are apps to do this or you can journal it. Knowing exactly how many times a day you smoke is a start to quitting. if you journal you can also write down the reason for smoking that time so you can find patterns/ reasons you’re smoking.
Set realistic goals!!
If your goal is to quit you should be working your way towards it instead of just thinking it’ll happen tomorrow.it’s like going to the gym, you won’t see results right away, but if you stick to it you will. If you’re smoking 4-5 times a day try to reduce it to 2-3 times a day. after a week try to do it once a day
Give yourself grace!!
These products were meant to be addicting so if you feel like you’ve been trying really hard and not making progress just know it’s not your fault. smoking/vaping doesn’t make you a bad person, it’s just not a good decision for your health
Hope that helps & good luck!!
Deciding to cut my lingering tethers to this parasite for good. 11 days in and my chronically sick body is healing :,) Not easy but trying to stop seeing this as a sacrifice but as freedom & an offering to my health!
