My feet show my life: running barefoot through grass and creeks and hot pavement, competing to see how long we could last before seeking reprieve from the shade. Hot sand and rocky beaches, exploring on large rocks to climb and jump off of into the ocean. The years of dance, balancing and twirling and jumping. Playing soccer, lacrosse, every other sport I tried and quit. Riding my bike up and down steep hills, through the Chicago streets. Walking miles and miles and miles and miles through the city. Hiking through forests and up mountains, even to the place I got engaged. Breaking multiple toes because I couldn't see what was in front of my feet, due to a baby being on my front. These calloused feet continue to carry me through this wild life, seemingly reflecting all I’ve been through. I care for them with the respect they deserve, and giving back the love they show me everyday in carrying this body around.
